Jeremiah 25

Jeremiah spent 23 years warning the people about the coming punishment. God sent other prophets as well. They had the same messages. All were ignored.

Now God spoke. He was sending Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to destroy everything and take the people away into exile.

Every sound of joy would be extinguished. The people would face their punishment.
Yet even in the midst of the terrible warning, God set a time limit on the punishment. At the end of 70 years He would restore His people.

In the meantime, there would be no cause for joy, either the fake joy the people currently pursued or the Joy that comes from God.

This was how horrible the punishment would be.

May we learn from the people of Israel and Judah and never fall away from God.

May our yearning always be to serve God, to listen to Him and to rejoice in Him. May we keep ourselves away from the hedonism and self seeking of the current age. May we never fall for the trap of worshipping wealth and possessions. May we always seek God and seek to serve Him.
